Remington Rifles Remington has a long tradition of producing high-quality rifles for the American sportsman. Remington began when Eliphalet Remington decided to build a rifle and take it to a competition. Remington focused on basic percussion rifles at first, but quickly expanded into handguns as well. Remington’s rifles came to life in World War I when Remington was tasked with building a variety of different rifles for wartime supplies. After World War I, Remington shifted focus to producing sporting rifles with lines aimed at hunters. They utilized the same wartime parts and tooling to produce sporting rifles patterned after military rifles. The Remington Model 30 was based on the British Enfield action. Remington continued to produce sporting rifles and created their famed Model 700 in 1962. The Model 700 quickly became the standard on which all other bolt-action rifles are judged by. Remington still produces a wide variety of rifles with the Model 700 as their flagship.
